Good Fats – Bad Fats – Trans Fats

Good Fats (mono & poly-unsaturated) heart healthy

  • Avocados
  • Virgin olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil
  • Nuts
  • Olives
  • Chia and Flax seeds

Bad Fats (saturated) increase cholesterol

  • Whole-milk dairy products –  butter, full-fat cheeses, ice cream
  • Meats – particularly ones with visible fat
  • Palm Oil
  • Shortening

Trans Fats – (partially hydrogenated oils) increase cholesterol, cause inflammation in the body

  • Commercially baked goods
  • All deep-fried foods – chips, French fries, donuts
  • Most fast foods
