Crystals for Beginners

The mention of crystals and your brain either goes to “Oh, what a pretty rock” or “that’s so woo-woo.”  No matter what side of the boat you are on, the practice of using crystals/rocks has been around since the beginning of time. Ancient Egyptians used them in crafting jewelry, to help bring the powers of the crystals to the body.  Amulets and talismans have been around forever.  So let’s look at a few and see what this is all about.

On a side note, while researching this article, I found there are groups of people who believe deeply in the magic of these rocks and actually call themselves, stoners.  Now being from Colorado, I find this hilarious.  I guess being stoned isn’t just for the pot dispensaries anymore.

Amethyst – “The Stone of Calm”

Rose Quartz – “ The Love Stone”

Use:  Opens up your heart to love – romantic love, friendship or self love

Smoky Quartz – “Leave your Baggage Behind”

Use: Help you let go of difficult or painful experiences. Grounding

Citrine – “The Light Maker”

Use:  Making room for happiness and joy

Obsidian – “ A Powerful Protector”

Use:  Assists you in cutting stress and negative patterns in your life

How to choose the right crystal for you

Many people say crystals choose you.  Walking into a crystal shop, looking around and a certain stone might spark your interest.  Maybe, but if not start by thinking of what you want to bring into your life or something you want to improve. Are you looking to improve your business, go for green aventurine.  Wanting to rekindle your marriage, go for rose quartz.   Hoping to lighten your mood and bring a smile to your face, go for citrine.

Closing

Whether you believe in the power of rocks may yet to be determined.  But, hey if I can place an amethyst on my nightstand and get a solid 8 hours of sleep, I’m willing to give it a try.  Plus, they are beautiful.  They are Mother Earth’s natural sculptures. If you give any of these a go, please leave a comment below.  I would be interested to see how they work for you.
