Last year one of the things I missed was listening to live music. Here are some benefits to experiencing live music.
Reduce Stress – Live music can reduce cortisol, the stress hormone responsible for regulating our fight or flight state. Having increased levels of cortisol can disrupt many of our body’s processes and can result in a variety of health issues.
Connects Us with People – The past 16 months have been hard for everyone and for some, they experienced loneliness and isolation. Music truly is a universal language and when we come together for a live show, our differences seem to disappear and we become connected to the people around us.
Dancing is Great Exercise – I find it very hard to sit still when I hear live music. Movement in the body is a great form of exercise and it doesn’t feel like exercise when you’re listening to great live music with others.
Makes People Happy – Live music makes people happy because it releases dopamine in our brains, resulting in an overwhelming good feeling in our body. Music has been used to improve the moods of people with chronic depression or other terminal illness.
The next time you have a chance to listen to live music, whether it be a large production concert or a free concert in the park, stop for a few minutes and lose yourself in the experience. I’m willing to bet you’ll have a smile on your face within minutes.
